Do’s and Don’ts for Installing the MK2 Door Selector/Coordinator

As with all fire door hardware, correct installation of the MK2 door selector is imperative to protect people from the risks of fire. Getting installation right ensures fire doors perform safely and reliably every single time. Whether you’re an experienced installer or installing for the first time, a careful and considered approach is needed.

In this blog we share a straightforward do’s and don’ts guide, when installing the MK2 door selector.

dO:

FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

It might sound obvious, but skipping steps or relying on guesswork is where things go wrong as all doors are different. Take the time to follow the installation instructions carefully from start to finish.

  • Before you begin installing, make sure the MK2 model supplied is suitable for the doors you’re working on. Check you have the right size arm and rebate block.

The details at the top of the installation instructions indicate which model you need according to the door specification. Double-check the model and spec before you start the installation.

  • Everything we’ve included in the box has a purpose. Leaving parts out doesn’t just affect performance, it invalidates testing and certification, which could lead to serious compliance issues.

The rebate block often gets missed. This acts as a failsafe and must be installed for the product to work every time.

  • Make sure you’ve identified whether the doors are left- or right-handed before you begin installation.

Using the wrong template will cause problems later, so it’s worth getting this right upfront.

Don’t:

  • Trying to fit the MK2 from memory or experience alone is a risk. Always have the installation instructions to hand and refer to them as you go through each step.

  • Using incorrect or substitute fixings can lead to failure over time. Stick with what’s supplied, it’s been tested as part of the product for CE, UKCA,UL and ANSI.

Using other parts could lead to risks of fire and invalidate certification.

  • The rebate catch might seem like a minor component but it isn’t. The rebate catch acts as a failsafe and is essential for ensuring the correct closing sequence every time.

Leaving out the rebate catch introduces a potential life safety risk.

  • Installation isn’t finished when everything’s fitted. You must carry out the checks and adjustments outlined in the instructions to ensure the system is working exactly as it should and the fire doors close in the correct sequence.
